Social Events
We have a full program of social events

Our social committee organise and arrange a full and varied program of activities for the members to participate in.

Whilst not every activity will appeal to every member, we hope that there will be at least one or two things that will be of interest to each member, during the month.

We also actively encourage our partners and families to join us in many of the activities.

An invitation to visit the Met Police helicopter base in Essex was taken up by 12 members of the clubs and family members. It was a terrific visit in February. Our guide was Kevin Sutton who has featured as one of the pilots in the TV documentary series Sky Cops

Richard and Andy Richard telling us about his trumpet playing as a boy.

We decided to hold a Brickhills-Style desert Island discs evening. Twelve of us turned up with our favourite piece of music, our favourite book and the luxury we wanted to take with us to the desert island.

Whilst everyone cchoice different music and books there were two peopl who chose Pink Floyd tracks and another 2 people who said they could have selected Pink Floyd as their favourites.

It was facinating to hear the reasons people stated for their choices and we all learned something new about each other.

A most sucessful evening.

Our Charter Celebration

Happy and relaxed

Morgan, Richard and Graham

Our 7th Charter night celebration was graced by the presence of 2 other Zone Club Presidents, Carola Holtz from Milton Keynes RC and Jane Lynds from Wolverton and Stony Stratford. We were also honoured to have with us Sir John our Assistant Governor and Lady Southby his wife .

The evening took place in our favourite restaurant, Galloway's in Woburn where David the patron as usual served an excellent meal and provided a wonderfully convivial atmosphere.

Andrew our President was over 1 hour late for which he will be fined later on; but once he joined us he took the helm and said the appropriate words to mark the occasion of our birthday.

We decided to all share the cooking and have a Christmas party at home. President Andrew volunteered his and Elizabeth's house and 17 of us turned out in our best clothes for what ended up being one of the most enjoyable and riotous nights we have ever had.

Everyone had to sit on President Andy's knee to receive their gifts, some recipients thought a kiss was in order. That was fine from the girls but when Graham kissed Andy full on the lips, it was too much for our delicate President!!

Sunday morning 18th October was a lovely morning, which was excellent news as we were walking in Salcey Forest. It was the largest turnout of the club's extended family for about a year which made the day very special.

We were made most welcome at the 5th Charter night of Bloxwich RC

The Rotary Club of Bloxwich is the only other club in the United Kingdom that meets on a Sunday night, as we do. They also do not have meal at their meetings, Like us, and, they are a young club of half male and half female members.

President Andrew decided to respond to their invitation to celebrate their 5th Charter night on the 11th September in Walsall. We were made most welcome and we plan to exchange visits to each others clubs soon.

It must have been one of the windiest days of the year. At least the sun was shining though. We held a family BBQ in Luton in the park first for games and fun and then down the road to Richard's house for a BBQ.

It was good turn out for this eventclick for bigger pictures and everyone had loads to eat. The children had enormous fun scooting down the garden path at the side of the garden.

Classic Car tour of Normany

One of the 5 beautiful castles we visited on this tour.

Did you know that Rotary has a special fellowship groups for all sorts of interest and hobbies? Well, one of those is the RRAF The Rotary Retro Automobile Fellowship of Rotarians.

Andy S and Elizabeth saw an advert for a classic car tour of Normandy advertised on  the RIBI website and decided to ask if a 2004 BMW Z4 might qualify! Surprisingly it did and we have just returned from a truly wonderful 5 days in wet and cold Normandy.

Forty two cars participated and ours was not the youngest. We were number 40.  We didn't know anyone else going on this tour, but by the end of the 5 days we had made many new friends. Somehow, Elizabeth managed to volunteer for the committee, to do the 4 newsletters a year and redo the website!

We will definitely do this again and perhaps some from our club and district would like to join us.

Wyckham Wanderers

Even though we had torrential rain, they watered the pitch at half time! Click for bigger picture
At last the BIG day dawned. MK Dons v Wyckam Wanders. Morgan had added this event to the club diary back in 2007. Morgan is a huge fan of the Wanders and stewards for them at their home matches. He was sitting with all the Wyckam supporters.

It was a sunny day until the heavens opened and unleashed a torrent of heavy rain. We got very wet. The game only got exiting right at the end when Wickham were leading and the Dons scored an equaliser. Unfortunately Neil missed the entire 2nd half as he was rather ill. Poor thing...but he made a full recovery later that night :-) click for bigger pictures

The Brickhills Rotary Dragon Den

Our worthy winner was Morgan with the website for football fans called "Terrace Tittle Tattle"
Friday night April 4th we held a "Dragon Den" Brickhills style. 5 of us (whittled down from 9 the cowards....) gathered together in Chairman Andy's house to pitch our ideas against each other.

This was a great evening. Helen really had prepared an excellent speech and pitch, with props and everything. We all had 4 minutes to present our ideas and then be questioned by the rest. At the end we gave money to who we thought had the best idea and Morgan won with his idea for an on-line dating site for football fans.

An evening to be repeated!

Our Charter Night at the Swan In Salford
A great night with nearly all the club present. We decided to celebrate our Charter night in the Swan at Salford on the 19th January. It was a dry night which was really good for the ladies walking through the car park wearing high heels.

We were 18 in number and managed to fit round one table. The food was great the ambiance terrific and we all had a superb evening. Guests Sandy and David Aked-Walker joined us along with two prospective members, Sue and Colin.

Graham still talking, the rest of us are waiting for our food. about to eat A more attentive bunch, patiently waiting for their food'

The weather could not have been better A mild January day and we took our families kite flying on Dunstable Downs.

There was enough of a breeze for the kites to take off, we just need some more practice to keep them up there!
