The Brickhills Rotary club
of Milton Keynes is a fine example of one of the more modern type of Rotary clubs.
Whilst retaining all the excellent aims and objects of the Rotary organisation, this Rotary club actively addresses the more exacting pace of life we all lead today.
The average age of the Brickhills Rotary club is 40 and the majority of the members have a young family. The gender split of the membership is almost equal between men and women, with couples forming over half of the members. We have an active social programme which includes our non-Rotarian partners and often the children too. Click here for more pictures of our social events and details about the club.

Our club entered for the National PR event award for the ~Rotary Easter Showcase that we put on in Middleton Hall last year. A 45 page report was drafted and submitted to RIBI headquarters. One month later we had a phone call to say that we had won the award jointly with Stanford St Martins Rotary club. Andrew and Elizabeth Sheldon travelled to National Conference in Edinburgh to receive the award. It was a very proud moment. ...District Governor Les Lee called us from his hospital bedand said "I am very proud of you and the Brickhills Rotary Club for winning the award. I know how much work went into the event and I could not be happier that you have won this for us all. Thank you very much"click for bigger pictures
The highlight of the conference speakers was Michael Portillo and very funny and self depricating man. |

Our council meetings are held the Monday before our monthly business meeting and on this occassion our President Andrew Sheldon was away on business in Cardiff. Rather than cancel the meeting, he logged on through video Skype and took full part in the meeting. He was able to see us and we were able to see him. There is no escape these days from meeting attendance. If anyone woud like to know more about conducting meeting in this way please contact Elizabeth Sheldon on the number above. Skype video conferencing is free! |

| Nigel dealing a hand as a gangster!! | Well, our Charity Poker Tournament is in its fourth year now, and with around £3500 raised for about
the winners' chosen charities, is still going strong. On May
16th 2009 we are returning to our origins in the Wild West. Anyone
who comes suitably attired will get a £1.00 discount on their first drink at
the bar.
The Brickhills Rotary Club are jointly organising this years tournament with the poker club, as we have done in past years. The tournament is in the same format as in previous years, and as usual, food will be included in the entrance price, and a bar will be available if you need some liquid refreshment. Remember, you are playing for the charity of your choice, so get out there and win! |

Rotarians and their partners gathered together for the annual Induction Dinner at the Riverside Suite in Luton on Thursday the 26th June. The night was dry and warm and everyone was in good spirits.
District Governor Brain Doggrell, looking very dapper, greeted the guests as they arrived. DG Brian gave a short speech saying that this had been the shortest year of this life, but one of the most enjoyable. Our President Elect Andrew won the award on behalf of his committee for the Rotary Easter Showcase. click for a bigger picture

At our meeting on Sunday 3rd August, our District Governor Les and his wife Jeanette who is district President of Inner Wheel visited us at our monthly club meeting. Although our meetings are fairly informal, Les and our President Andy exchanged club banners. Les spoke to the meeting and gave us his vision for the year ahead. In return, Les was able to hear about our club plans and the events we have in the forth coming months. Jeanette also spoke to us and gave us a potted history of Inner Wheel and what she is hoping to achieve this year.
