Jo walked the Moon walk in record time

Jo, Hazel and Liz who completed the Playtex Moonwalk in May.
The training took months. she wore out several pairs of trainers but Jo was determined to complete the moon walk and not only that, she did it in a truly respectable time.

The walk started in London at 11:40pm and they crossed the finish line at 6:07am averaging less than 15 minutes per mile. Pretty good for 26.2 miles. The walk raises money for combating breast cancer and Jo and her two friends raised £1500.

Casino for the Extra Care Business challenge

We ran a casino night at the Lovat Fields Retirement Village for the Extra Care Business challenge.
The ExtraCare charity asked local businesses to invest £50 to raise funds for the charity in a three month period. The organisation who had raised the most at the end of that period would win a trophy.

We held a casino night at Lovat Fields and raised over £700. We also had a raffle and one of our members extracted contributions for a district  meeting in February.

Collection of groceries for local good causes

The Mayor of Leighton Buzzard (minus his chain of office)

On Saturday 24th November, we were given permission by Morrisons in Leighton Buzzard to ask the public to donate some extra groceries or toiletries which we then donate to local worthy causes.

The shoppers were extremely generous and we gathered 5 large shopping trolleys worth of goods.

The Mayor of Leighton Buzzard, who lives very close to the store, visited us to give his support.

McMillan Coffee Morning

Our Rotary District Governor Brian came for coffee and cakes.

We all made some lovely cakes to sell.

We held our second Coffee Morning, in aid of the MacMillan Cancer Care fund on the 28th September in the School in Bow Brickhill.

It was well attended by the villagers of Bow Brickhill and surrounding communities. Our members had made plenty of home made cakes which we sold coffee with a slice of cake. We also offered plates of cakes for sale that the visitors could take home and share with their friends and families.

In addition to cakes and coffee, we also had cards, books and CD's for sale Altogether we raised a total of £ 237 for the cause.

On Saturday the 19th May we were asked once again to run the entertainment in the form of a casino, for the annual Childbase Ball which is held for the staff.

This year the event was held at Newbury Racecourse and it was almost an all day affair for the employees of the Childbase Nursery group.

We started the casino action at 22:00 and worked through till 01:00. The event was enjoyed by all the Childbase staff who looked forward to honing the gambling skills they have been cultivating for a number of years now.
